Solar battery in Sydney
In Sydney you get the federal discount, plus a NSW payment if you join a virtual power plant (VPP). There's no NSW install rebate [SB-S006, SB-S007, C].
A 2-module Sigenergy (about 18 kWh) costs from $8,067.60 installed, says one installer, as at 3 November 2026 [SB-S092, C].

What NSW adds
- A VPP payment for batteries of 2–50 kWh. It's paid on the storage you let the grid use, up to 28 kWh [SB-S007, C].
- It stacks with the federal discount [SB-S007, C].
- The amount depends on the VPP provider [SB-S007, C]. MISSING: dollar rates per provider.
- Downside: in a VPP, someone else can use part of your battery (E, from how a VPP works per SB-S007).
NSW has the most batteries installed under the federal scheme: 187,241 to 30 September 2026 [SB-S075, C].
Who it's not for
- Apartments and strata without your own roof or solar [SB-S003, C; apartments research batteries at 7% vs houses 12%, SB-S077, C].
- Renters, unless the owner agrees [SB-S003, C].
Will it pay for itself?
- Yearly saving ≈ kWh the battery covers each evening × 365 × (your peak rate − your feed-in rate) (E).
- Payback years = what you pay after discounts ÷ yearly saving (E).
- Check the warranty: most batteries we cover promise 70% of usable storage at 10 years, or a throughput cap, whichever comes first [SB-S053, SB-S055, SB-S057, SB-S059, C]. If payback is past 10 years, think twice (E).

- The exact system name on the CEC approved list, written on your quote [SB-S026, SB-S069, C].
