Best solar battery in Australia
Thinking about a home battery? Here's what matters: whether it's on the approved list, how much usable storage you get, what it really costs installed, and what the federal discount is worth on the day it goes in.
We haven't installed or used these batteries ourselves. This page is research from government pages, manufacturer documents and installer price lists, each linked and dated.

How the federal discount works
Federal battery discount, as at 3 November 2026. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives a discount through small-scale technology certificates (STCs). For installs from 1 May to 31 December 2026 a battery earns 6.8 STCs per usable kWh; from 1 January 2027 it's 5.7. The full rate applies to the first 14 kWh, 60% from 14 to 28 kWh and 15% from 28 to 50 kWh; nothing above 50 kWh. The rate is set by your installation date, not when you sign. The dollar value depends on the STC price your installer offers, so there's no fixed "$ off". To qualify, the battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list, be VPP-capable, and be installed by an installer accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia for grid-connected battery systems. We suggest a New Energy Tech Consumer Code approved seller. Rules can change: check cer.gov.au and dcceew.gov.au.
Example (our arithmetic from the CER factors, not a quote): a 10 kWh usable battery installed in December 2026 earns 68 STCs; the same battery installed in January 2027 earns 57 [SB-S001, SB-S036]. Full rules: solar battery rebate.
By state (as at 3 November 2026)
- NSW: the old install discount has ended; a VPP incentive is open and stacks with the federal discount [SB-S006, SB-S007]. Solar battery Sydney
- Queensland: no state battery rebate open; Battery Booster closed [SB-S044, SB-S045]. Solar battery Brisbane
- WA: Residential Battery Scheme open, VPP required [SB-S008]. Solar battery Perth
- Victoria: Solar Victoria battery loans closed [SB-S009].
- SA: Home Battery Scheme closed [SB-S046].
- NT: Home and Business Battery Scheme closed to new grants (funding cap reached) [SB-S047].
- ACT: Sustainable Household Scheme loans include batteries [SB-S012].

The federal discount needs the battery to go with solar PV. Home battery without solar [SB-S003]
