FoxESS home battery review: prices, specs and downsides
How this site makes money. We don't earn money from any links on this site yet. If that changes, we'll update this notice first. We don't compare every battery, installer or energy plan in the market. How we make money
The answer first: FoxESS EQ4800 stacks 4.66 kWh modules from 9.32 to 41.93 kWh usable [SB-S054, C]. Solar National, a Sydney (NSW) installer, lists FoxESS EQ from $2,660 after the federal rebate for 14.4 kWh (nominal, as listed; module count not confirmed), with a Fox hybrid inverter, as at July 2026 [SB-S099, C]. Cheap per kWh on that list; check the exact stack and whether the price is still current [SB-S099, SB-S054, E].

What it is
A high-voltage stack of 4.66 kWh modules (2 to 9), nominal power 4.48–20.16 kW, pack round-trip over 95% [SB-S054, C].
| Spec | FoxESS |
|---|---|
| Usable kWh | 4.66 per module; 9.32–41.93 per stack [SB-S054, SB-S072, C] |
| Max size | 41.93 kWh per stack (L9) [SB-S054, C] |
| Inverter setup | Fox hybrid inverter on the dated list [SB-S099, C]; other inverters MISSING |
| Backup | MISSING |
| Warranty | 10 yrs; at least 70% or throughput (L2 39.32 … L9 176.94 MWh), first [SB-S055, C] |
| CEC listed until | 14 Nov 2027 (EQ4800-L2–L9) [SB-S072, C] |
Prices
| Size | Installed price (seller, as at) | Model |
|---|---|---|
| 14.4 kWh (nominal, as listed) | $2,660 after federal rebate ($6,500 full); Solar National, Sydney, as at July 2026 [SB-S099, C] | Fox ESS EQ; module count not confirmed |
| 24 kWh (nominal, as listed) | $2,060 after federal rebate ($7,500 full); Solar National, Sydney, as at July 2026 [SB-S099, C] | Fox ESS EQ |
| 41.9 kWh | $4,960 after federal rebate ($11,600 full); Solar National, Sydney, as at July 2026 [SB-S099, C] | Fox ESS EQ |
The rebate amounts on that list look higher than the rate for installs from 1 May 2026; we haven't checked them, so treat the after-rebate figures with care [SB-S099, E]. Other FoxESS prices we found are undated or market ranges, so we don't show them.
What the federal discount is worth. Our arithmetic, not a quote: installs from May to December 2026 earn 6.8 STCs per usable kWh up to 14 kWh, then 60% of that to 28 kWh and 15% to 50 kWh [SB-S036, SB-S001, C]. STCs last traded at $39.65 (30 Oct 2026); installers pass on a bit less [SB-S095, C]. The factor drops to 5.7 for installs from January 2027 [SB-S036, C]. The discount is set by the installation date [SB-S004, C]. It needs a CEC-listed, VPP-capable battery installed with solar by an SAA battery-endorsed installer [SB-S003, C]. The STC price moves, so your installer's figure will differ. Official rules: cer.gov.au and dcceew.gov.au. EQ4800-L3 (13.98 kWh): 95 STCs, about $3,767. EQ4800-L5 (23.30 kWh): 133 STCs, about $5,273 [SB-S036, SB-S001, SB-S095, E].
Downsides
- On heavy daily cycling, the throughput cap rather than the 10 years can end the warranty [SB-S055, C/E].
- The dated list mixes nominal and usable sizes, so the quote has to name the model [SB-S099, E].
- Backup hardware and its cost: MISSING.
Who it's not for
FoxESS is not for you if:
- you want to keep a non-Fox inverter (compatibility MISSING).
- you want a price dated after July 2026: none published yet that we found.
It suits new solar-and-battery installs wanting a big stack for the money [SB-S054, SB-S099, E].
Ask your installer
- The exact EQ4800 model (L2–L9) and its usable kWh on the CEC list [SB-S072].
- Whether the price uses the discount rate for your install date [SB-S004].
- What backup is included, and its cost.
Next step: get quotes
Ask at least two accredited installers for a written quote that shows the model, usable kWh and the certificate count.
